OSCAR GIUNTA (Drummer/Composer/drum teacher).

Oscar Giunta is considered to be one of the most prominent solo jazz musicians today, and has been a household name in the jazz scene for the past decade.

Oscar Giunta holds one of the most prolific careers of the last years
in the Argentinean music scene, he is not only the most requested artist by Argentinean most renowned musicians, but has now begun to cross over with his music, touring and performing with great success around Europe, the United States and Latin America.
He is actually beginning his solo career with the appearance of his first solo album, in which not only we will appreciate his skills as a master drummer but also as a composer, mixer, producer and multi instrumental artist.
Giunta will present this new material in his upcoming tours in several
cities in Argentina as well as in an international level.

Oscar Giunta belongs to a traditional musical and artistic family from
Mendoza (Argentina). He was born in San Jose, Guaymallen in 1975.

He started playing drums when he was only two years old. In 1983, with seven years old, he makes his professional debut as a drummer in Channel 11 of Buenos Aires (Telefe).
After this, he has the experience of playing with the saxophonist Andres Boiarsky (side-man of Paquito de Rivera).

When he was eleven, he takes his first formal classes with Roberto
'Junior' Cesari.
While he is in secondary school he also studies music in the conservatory 'Juan Pedro Esnaola' in Buenos Aires. There, he studies classic and shymphonic percussion with Pablo La Porta, percussionist of the Colon Theatre.

When he was thirteen, he played with the great pianist Horacio Larumbe in a series of jazz concerts in Buenos Aires.
From then on, he has been the centre of an Argentine jazz movement
carrying it to other world latitudes.
He has played with Luis Salinas, Javier Malosetti, Walter Malosetti,
Quinteto Urbano, Adrian Iaies, Diego Urcola, Oscar Feldman, Guillermo Romero, Ricardo Cavalli, Ernesto Jodos, Ernesto Snajer, Veronica Condomi, Ricardo Lew, Santiago Giacobbe, etc.

Internationally, Giunta has played , traveled, performing and recorded with
artists like Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Chris Potter,Lalo Schifrin,Billy Cobham, Phillip Catherine, Danilo Perez, Paquito De Rivera, among others.

As sessionist, he is Sandra Mihanovich and Nito Mestre’s drummer.
Some of his last most important activities are Paquito De Rivera`s
concert in the Colon Theatre in Buenos Aires together with the theatre`s philarmonic orchestra celebrating De Rivera`s 50 years with music, Quinteto Urbano`s concert in the same
theatre, national tours with Javier Malosetti`s trio, European tours
and recordings with South American Jazz Project.

He has recorded with trumpetist Diego Urcola the album 'Soundances' nominated to the Grammy`s as the best latin jazz album; the recording and edition of the album 'Las Tardecitas de Minton`s' with Adrian Iaies` trio nominated as 'Latin Grammy Award' in the same category, and the recording of the album 'Luis Salinas y amigos en Espana', also nominated to the Grammy`s.

He dictates drum clinics and workshops both in Argentina as in other countries. He also gives private drum lessons in his studio in Capital Federal, Buenos Aires.

. During 2008, Oscar Giunta has been the chosen artist to perform alongside with musicians such as Luis Alberto Spinetta, Charly Garcia, Alejandro Medina and very extensive “etc”.

Always as a solo artist, Oscar is currently touring as a member of bass player Javier Malosetti’s Trio.
He has also been a cornerstone as the lead drummer in the most popular music cycle for TV aired in Argentina “Musica para soñar” (aired from Monday through Friday at midnight in Telefe channel Buenos Aires); which was also aired internationally for a period of two years.
“Musica para soñar” marked the way for live music TV shows and is considered nowadays as a cult show in Latin America.

Furthermore, Oscar Giunta is a member of the “Varsovia” project along with Ruben Rada and Javier Malosetti (Rada - Malosetti - Giunta - Jacinto), which tours throughout the country and abroad, in addition to the recording of the album “Varsovia”.

In September 2006, Oscar Giunta was invited as guest of honour by the maestro Lalo Shffrin, for a concert in the Luna Park stadium in Buenos Aires, playing alongside with the Buenos Aires Philharmonic orchestra and jazz band.
With this project he will then tour through the Argentinean country and its main capital cities.

One of the main performers during Zildjian Day’s 2007 edition (Santiago de Chile - Chile), sharing the stage with drummer Cyndi Blackman (Jazz Great and Lenny Kravitz band).

In January 2008, Oscar Giunta and Billy Cobham, are summoned to be the main international drummers in the Panama Drum Festival (Panama City – Panama
Oscar Giunta present work highlights his own Quartet, where he takes
charge of the drums as well as the role of composer, mixer and producer.

With his Quartet he will be performing several shows as well as touring through Argentina, Chile and Spain. At the same time he will be recording his first solo album. This solo album has become, even before it is edited, into one of the most anxiously expected contemporaneous jazz albums.
